If you’re a fan of Gossip Girl, you’ll love ABC Family’s upcoming series Pretty Little Liars! The show, based on the popular book series by Sara Shepard, revolves around the lives of four best friends who reconnect one year after the disappearance of their Queen Bee best friend, Alison. The girls soon realize that they are all receiving messages from “A,” an anonymous tipster who threatens them with secrets only Alison knew. With the series premiere right around the corner, Quizfest had a chance to speak with the stars of the show.
Ashley Benson and Lucy Hale, who you may remember from the CW show Privileged, play best friends, Hanna Marin and Aria Montgomery. Like their characters, Lucy and Ashley are BFFs in real life. “I just have a good time with her,” Lucy says of Ashley. “We laugh and we have similar senses of humor, so I think that's why we're such good friends.”
As good of a bud as Ashley is, she did admit to one friendship faux pas. While reading the PLL books, Ashley was ahead of her co-stars and couldn’t contain the urge to spill details about the fate of their characters. “I'd be like, ‘Oh my gosh! You'll never believe what happens to your character!" and tell them and they'd get so mad.’"
Troian Bellisario who plays Spencer Hastings, remembers Ashley’s loose lips well. “It was the worst! She'd like spoil it right before I'd do a scene and I'd be like, 'Ashley stop!'”While all the girls enjoyed reading the PLL books, Shay Mitchell who plays Emily Fields, has moved on to another great read. “I read ‘Eat, Pray, Love.’ I know I’m a little late with that one but I love that.”
